JH & SH Department

Take a closer look.

A note from the department supervisor.

We invite you to take a closer look at the life of a Junior/Senior High student at Lebanon Christian Academy:

Our day begins at 7:30 a.m. when students can mingle with one another in the hallway by the lockers.  On three days of the week (M/W/F), breakfast items are available for purchase during this time.  Friday is Donut Day!  Many students are enjoying this relaxed start to the school day.

By 7:45, the students report to their homerooms where they receive announcements about the day and about upcoming events.  Each homeroom also recites the pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible.  We spent several weeks at the beginning of the year to explain the meaning of the pledges phrase by phrase and to help students understand why these three allegiances are proper and encouraged.  Homeroom culminates with a time of devotion and prayer.  Currently in the devotion time, we consider one attribute of God each day.  It is our desire that our students not only know about God but know Him personally.

Our academics begin at 8:00 a.m.  The morning is focused on the core academic subjects.  Midday students have a short recess as part of their lunch break.  In the afternoon, students have more freedom to customize their schedules by choosing certain electives.  Some traditional electives have remained popular, such as Envirothon, Yearbook, Teacher’s Aide, and Choir.  Our Envirothon team is preparing to defend their county title and hoping to get back to the state competition in the spring.  The Teacher’s Aide elective encourages students to consider Teaching as a career by letting them interact with a class and teacher and experience teaching firsthand.  Some exciting new opportunities have been added to the elective options this year and are quickly becoming favorites as well.  The Home Ec class often captures our attention with the tantalizing smells coming for the kitchen at the end of the day!  The Graphic Design class has produced some amazing flyers promoting school activities, and the Robotics class is learning how to build and program robots using Legos.  The aim of all our academic programs is to encourage a love of learning so that our students are well-equipped to glorify the Lord by serving Him.  Success for LCA is producing students who are yielded to the Lord’s will for their lives.

To encourage this proper spirit of Christian service and responsibility, our junior high and senior high students participate in a team competition throughout the year.  Each student is a member of one of four teams:  the Spartans (red), the Centurions (blue), the Samurai (green), or the Gladiators (orange).  Students earn points for their team by participating in team games and competitions during events like the Retreat, the Christmas party, Spirit Week, and Field Day.  Students can also contribute to their teams by volunteering for service activities.  In December, we are planning to participate in the Wreaths Across America effort by helping to distribute wreaths around the cemetery at Fort Indiantown Gap.  Additionally, students can contribute to their team by their own personal responsibility and efforts.  Points are awarded to the team that accrues the fewest demerits each month.  Students can earn points individually by having perfect attendance for an entire month, by achieving the Honor Roll, by attendance at games and other school functions, by involvement in extracurricular activities like All-State Choir, and by participation in fundraisers.  The winning team is rewarded with a special activity at the end of the year!  The goal of the team competition is to build a spirit of respect and unity by encouraging personal responsibility and participation.  We want students to recognize their role in the Body of Christ and understand that their role is important to the health of the body.

We praise the Lord for the work He has done in our student body already this year and look forward to what He will do in the future as we remain focused on Him and yielded to His will! (Phil. 1:20,21).
